Classy Florida Style
Winter Park, Florida
The overall goal of this Winter Park landscape design was to increase curb appeal and update the backyard area to match the family’s needs and style.
We have proposed a new straightened entry pathway to the front door. The pavers should match either the existing driveway pavers or the new pool deck pavers. By increasing the width to 4 feet, it is more appropriately sized for the 2-story architecture versus the existing 3 foot width. With a straight orientation, we were able to acquire more yard space in the front yard. A curving bed creates a nestled area in the lawn that can easily fit some chairs or blanket for a hang out area in the front yard. We have proposed to remove all the old plantings in the front and start from scratch with the exception of the existing oak trees.
This area remains quite simple and maximizes lawn space for the dog. It also creates a nice welcome experience should they have guests enter directly into the backyard. Nestled into the south corner, we have proposed a river rock fire pit area that can fit 4-6 chairs and a pathway leads to the new pool deck area.
Rather than use a mixture of renovation pavers and new full pavers, we have proposed an entirely new pool deck layout. It was our recommendation to demolish the existing concrete pool deck and start over. This will be more aesthetically pleasing and last a lot longer. A new coping can be installed around the existing pool to match the new pavers. The new pool layout creates a ton of new space for different seating arrangements and plenty of room to move around. The pool deck directly abuts the new turf play area in some places. A new walkway connects around to the back garage door and the gate to the north. This doubles as another guest entry or utility connection.
We have provided maximum space for the artificial turf play area. The main play area is approximately 1,300 square feet and it is approximately 2,000 square feet in total. Metal edging shall be installed at any location where planting area touches the turf area. When installing turf we tell all our clients to find a licensed installer and contractor as grading and drainage will be vital in this type of area.
This design combines traditional design that complements the architecture of the home with a flowy, organic style that complements the family’s personal style. The plants are a mix of classic garden plants with tropical accents.
This design will require yearly maintenance but no more than that of similar residences in the area. The plant palette features all Florida Native or Florida Friendly plants that are suitable for our local climate.
